Coda has both text and canvas field types for text fields. Unfortunately it allows formatting of text in both types of field.
Can Coda provide a field that only allows simple text entry?
This would simplify copy/paste since the paste would always be done as simple text in these fields even if the user does not know about Command-Shift-Option-V. Many users do not know about this special past combo and end up pasting unwanted formatting along with the data.
This would also prevent users for adding formatting to text fields as a “cheap” for of coding. We have seen users, for example, color coding text in records to imbue the text with a kind of “status” meaning even though Coda has no way of treating these colors as real status signals. The right way to do this is to create a status column in the table and then use conditional formatting to color the text field in question. But naïve users will not know this, will not ask for help, and will corrupt the table with all sorts of formatting-as-status attempts instead of asking for help to get a proper status column set up.
All in all it is really problematic that text fields cannot be forced to plain text only. Is there an option I am missing? Can Coda please add true plain text fields, or at least a switch in the column settings to make a field plain text?
