Thank you to everyone who joined our latest roundtable! We covered everything from the new Mac desktop beta to offline mode and major mobile performance improvements, and your thoughtful questions and feedback made it even better.
Here’s what we shared, and what we heard from you:
What’s New
Mac Desktop Beta (Live Now! Here is the link to take part!)
We’ve launched a beta of the Coda Mac app, designed to feel fast, native, and focused. It includes:
-
Tabs for multiple docs
-
Native macOS notifications
-
In-doc search (including tables)
-
Quick access to recent and starred content
-
Automatic updates
Offline Mode (In Progress)
We’re building offline support in two phases:
-
View and edit existing docs offline (first release)
-
Create new docs offline (coming later)
You’ll be able to mark docs for offline access, and recently viewed docs will automatically be available when you lose connection. We know this is crucial for travel and on-the-go work.
Mobile Improvements
Mobile is now a fully staffed priority for us. We’re investing in three main areas:
Performance
We’re moving to database-backed tables, which will load only the rows you need for a specific page, instead of the entire doc. This will dramatically improve load times and reliability for large docs.
-
Beta: Spring
-
Launch: Summer
More Native UX
We’ve already improved login and mobile tabs, and we’re continuing to modernize navigation and the overall mobile experience.
Usability & Table Parity
We’re focused on making tables, views, and editing feel seamless on mobile, especially for the workflows that matter most to you.
What We Heard From You
We’re incredibly grateful for your honest feedback. A few themes stood out:
-
Large docs need to load reliably on mobile.
-
Table and calendar views should feel more consistent with desktop.
-
Calendar functionality on mobile needs richer views (month/week/day).
-
Forms and branching logic are important for data intake workflows.
-
Widgets and quick mobile access to tasks/calendar would be helpful.
-
A Windows desktop app is highly requested, and we’re scoping it next.
We hear you loud and clear; performance and table reliability are top priorities.
What’s Next
-
Database-backed table beta launching this spring
-
Mac desktop moving toward general availability
-
A table performance-focused roundtable iscoming soon [* RSVP here!]
Questions asked/answered
NOTE: We will update this post with answers to questions we were unable to address live on the call. Please check back!
Question: What about a Windows desktop app? — Asked by: @William_Devos
Answer: Mac was prioritized first. Windows is scoped next. The team plans to start work this quarter with the goal of building Windows as a relatively fast follow after Mac (no specific date given).
Question: What single workflow, if it worked perfectly, would make you use the app more? — Asked by: @Alberto_Delgado1 (Via Dory prompt)
Answer: Alberto explained the pain: many desktop views, especially table views, don’t translate to mobile. Harshita acknowledged it’s top of mind, asked whether it’s table-specific (it is), and confirmed parity for table views is a priority.
Question: When do you reach for the Coda mobile app most, and how could calendar/mobile previews be improved? — Asked by: @Sebastien (Via Dory prompt)
Answer: Users reach for their mobile while commuting/traveling. Sebastian wants richer calendar displays (month/week/day) and requested a mobile previewer so builders and creators can see how desktop layouts will look on mobile. Harshita said it’s a great idea and took note.
Question (from prompt 1): When you’re away from your desk, what’s one thing you wish Coda did better? — From general participants, highlighted by @Todd_Olson and others (Via Dory prompt): calendar and table usability on mobile are pain points, and users want multiple calendar views and better mobile table interactions.
Answer: Harshita agreed that calendar/table parity is important, and it’s on our roadmap.
Question: Any updates or plans for Forms (branching logic, mobile support, refreshed design?) — Asked by: @Connor_McCormick1
Answer: The team has not prioritized forms/branching recently. Harshita and Nathan noted this is useful feedback; Nathan said there’s nothing on the roadmap for branching right now, but they’ll take the feedback and investigate mobile form experience and view types.
Question: Can we have home-screen widgets to surface calendar/tasks/top docs? — Asked by: @Elise_REICHARDT
Answer: Harshita liked the idea, said it’se top-of-mind, and the team will consider adding widgets to the roadmap.
Question: Large docs don’t work (slow/crash), what’s the plan? — Asked by: @Pawel_Polanski , and echoed by others
Answer: Team explained they’re building database-backed tables to load only the rows needed per page (not the entire doc). This should improve large-doct performance.
Question: Why do formulas sometimes not calculate on mobile, and when will it be fixed? — Asked by: @Melanie_Teh
Answer: Harshita said formula calc issues are often a side-effect of large-docs failing to load (they deactivate calculations to help load). Nathan stated the database-backed table capability will have a beta in spring and a launch in the summer.
As always, your feedback directly shapes what we build. Thank you for being part of the Coda community ![]()
