We just shipped another round of fun table updates, and these ones are all about making your tables easier to read and customize.
Here’s what’s new:
Vertical gridlines in tables
You can now turn on vertical gridlines between columns, which is great for data-heavy tables where visual separation makes a real difference. When horizontal gridlines are on, enable vertical ones as well for a cleaner, more readable layout.
Resizable text controls
Text controls (when you type /text) no longer come in one fixed size. Set them to narrow, medium, or wide so longer content has the room it needs. If the container is narrower than your chosen width, it caps automatically.
Auto-size columns to their content
Double-clicking the gridline beside a column header now auto-sizes the column to fit the content! You can also trigger it from the new column menu option, or multi-select to do all your columns at once. Tidy up your tables in seconds.

The column auto-sizing seems to be limited to the column header, not the content of any one piece of data in the column. Still useful, just might need to be reworded for clarity.

Auto-sizing option for columns should be accounting for the column data, not just the column header, after this update! If you’re able to share an example doc where this isn’t working as expected, we can look into it - feel free to DM me.
These are kind of neat, not really that useful for my team.
But can someone on the Coda team explain the color situation. Like why are some colors available in some places and not others? Why can’t we use hex codes? Why doesn’t conditional formatting work in detail views?
I love the new features especially the vertical lines. Kudos.

I strongly support the need for the ability to have striped rows and/or columns. I currently achieve this by adding a number column and using conditional formatting to highlight the odd rows, but this method fails when you sort the data differently.
I do that as well and use <thisTable.Find(thisRow)> to generate the row index. Which until now I thought worked perfectly.
And it *does, but only with manual sort ordering (dragging and dropping rows to change order). However it breaks when other column sorts are applied (clicking another column to sort ascending or descending).
I had never noticed that before. I guess the times when I have used it, I never applied a sort based on another column.
Sorry for bursting your bubble. I have been dealing with this recently and it is a tedious manual process. Hopefully they can find a solution that will work no matter how it is sorted.
I have been waiting for this update for years! Praises! Something I’d also love to have added to the text control is the ability to add line breaks with in the text control, just like you can in a text column.
I’m late to the party here - but great QoL update - thankyou. Being able to finally centralise number columns scratches an OCD itch I’ve had with docs for many years.
