New in Docs: smarter data entry & validation

I agree 1000% on this.

We’re looking into how to bring this to canvas buttons and how we might be able to support pre-filling the form, great suggestions! @Samuel_Langford - would love to hear more about the formula case?

Great callout! Will take this back to the team to explore.

Sorry to hear that @Bruno_Santos! If you’re still having trouble, I’d recommend writing in to support and sharing the doc where you’re seeing the issue so we can help get you sorted out!

Thanks for flagging, @Nikola_Lajic! We started with a shared layout for simplicity, but definitely hear you on there being use cases for keeping separate layouts for adding rows vs consuming and editing them. Will take this back to the team to explore options.

Hi Shelley!

Right now, the button doesn’t follow the current filter on the form like the normal top & button button. Like both of these options have the Filter column as Yes, because that’s the table filter I have set.

But when I turn on the form option, there is no value for that column.

If I have a button that adds a row, there are always values I want prefilled, so being able to just add the form layout to an existing Add Row button would be ideal. Like another option underneath the Open row for editing toggle. So the ability to prefill & being able to use it in a formula would have a similar impact for me.

Which leads to me to think that if it could also be used in an Add or Modify row button that makes people confirm explicitly if they want to make changes to an existing row? That would so rad, but I’m getting ahead of myself.

Not sure if that is helpful or not, sorry.

Another round of great improvements, once again thanks to everyone who’s been working on those!

I totally agree with all the other suggestions by the (awesome) community, and I’ll add my two cents:

  • for 3/, I’d like to be able to customize the color of the “Confirm” button (for instance to align it with the color of the button which triggers the pop-up). I’d also like to have a bit more control over the formatting of the text. I’ll probably eventually replace those, but for now the confirmation modals that I had built thanks to @Paul_Danyliuk’s method are a bit more versatile in terms of format
  • for 5/, I’d like to be able to also customize the “Cancel” button in the form view. Now that we can customize the “Submit” button it would make perfect sense! Currently, for non-English Docs, we have the “Submit” button in one language and the “Cancel” button in another one…

But once again, I cannot stress enough how good it feels to see those QoL improvements after all those years. Thanks again!

I can second this @Bertrand_Bouteiller . After trying to optimise the documents by removing some of the modal workarounds, I’ve concluded that those workarounds will need to remain for now, until the native functionality is more polished for practical use.

I noticed a great way to improve performance. I think this was intentionally designed by the SH team, and it works brilliantly.

I used to have a lot of heavy DisableIf formulas on buttons, which significantly increased the document load time and also affected overall responsiveness, causing occasional micro-freezes. I moved the button-disable logic into the button confirmation modal and slightly adjusted the button actions using NoAction(). After checking analyze calculations, I noticed that these formulas are no longer being calculated when the document loads, which can significantly improve performance.

I definitely recommend giving this approach a try.

“Add rows as form” doesn’t work with select columns in cross doc.

I tried this with selects that define their options in the column settings, and selects with a table source. Both fail with this “missing context” error.

Thanks for flagging, @Nikola_Lajic! I’ll take this back to the team to investigate.

@Diego_Delfino @Gabriel_Lopes1 - you should now be able to use “add row as form” feature on additional view types (timeline, calendar, detail, cards, etc)! Thanks again for raising!

@Samuel_Langford thanks for the detailed explanation! The form option has been updated to pre-fill values based on the filters set. Would love any feedback as you try it out!
