Roundtable Summary: Community Refresh

Hi everyone!

Thanks to those of you who joined us this afternoon to weigh in on our upcoming community refresh. As we mentioned on the call, we want to get this right, and we can’t do that without you!

Your feedback was invaluable, and we hope to build on this conversation with additional ideas and insights to ensure the refreshed forum is something you’ll absolutely love.

Below is a summary of some questions we answered live on the call. We’ll follow up soon with answers to the questions we didn’t have time to address:

  1. Will all existing Coda forum content migrate to the new forum? - Yes, everything stays; only the look changes

  2. Will badges and Champion/Leader status be preserved? - Yes, with updated designs coming in May

  3. How will old/outdated posts be handled? - We will work with our partners at Discourse to discuss best practices for resolved/outdated content

  4. Can we improve tagging and enable the ability to follow specific tags? - We plan to work with Discourse on improved tagging architecture, TBD

  5. Will the member ranking page remain? - The underlying functionality should stay the same, but we will confirm with Discourse that this feature isn’t disrupted

  6. Will there be other community channels besides Discourse? - Our core forum will stay on Discourse for public access; Slack will remain for ambassador programs, but more on this at a later date

  7. How will we recognize new contributors from different products? (e.g., “Grambassadors” diving into the Coda forum) - We are exploring! This was a great question

  8. Can vote limits on feature requests be refreshed periodically? - We’ll surface this to Discourse to investigate the limitation

Thanks again, and we hope this is just the beginning of a great conversation :sparkles:

Thanks for the meeting and even more for the summary! Was just listening with one ear due to time zone difference, but super excited about the updates :grimacing:

what i’m lost, is the forum gonna end up in Discourse?

What if one dont like Discourse?

I researched more about the platform to build an opinion about this.

It looks like a great idea.

  1. The UI of conversations is the same, so we don’t have to adapt too much.
  2. New features like: Chat in real time is an awesome feature to build relationships between makers, because “Post“ based communities are more of a cold relationship. No one knows each other and just put your opinion and answers to the questions.
  3. Chat in real time allows us to talk about the day-to-day use of the tool, which is good for the devs to collect data on what we like and don’t like about the tool.

It would be a great update to make the community even more active. I personally upvote this update.

This forum is ALREADY in Discourse.
They are just upgrading the branding and adding sections for Grammarly users and Superhuman Mail users as well as the existing Coda users.
