On layouts: that was a bug and it’s been fixed. You should now be able to set different layouts per tab.
On naming: Pablo’s workaround with continuing to leverage the container name could work here, as in CFL the tab is always prefixed by the container name. I hear the friction though, and will take it back to the team to look into.
On auto-hiding tabs: this is on our radar. It’s a byproduct of how table sizing works today, but we’re exploring options to improve it.
On the canvas tabs concept: we specifically chose to focus this launch on making tabbed views work well for tables. We have also considered the more generic version, so it’s really helpful to know there’s interest in that approach to guide future investments.

We did have a mobile issue with tab switching that should now be resolved. If you’re still experiencing problems, please let us know! We’re continuing to improve the mobile experience for tabs and would love bug reports and feedback.

Apologies for the confusion - that was a bug that has since been resolved.
You should now be able to select a specific tab as the source view for cross doc. If you continue to experience any issues with cross doc, please let us know!

I’d like to have an option to allow me to see different tabs of a single coda page in different tabs of my browser, so I can see side by side different tabs of the same page.
Currently, every tab of the browser opened on the same page jumps to the same tab view.

There is a different issue now. When open the Kebab menu and click on a menu item / tab, it does 2 actions - 1. it switches to the tab, 2. opens the first item of the new tab view. It’s like 2 clicks - select a tab and clicking on the item card.

Haven’t found a great way to measure the performance. It feels quite OK on desktop to me. Some users complained specifically on Chromebooks (fairly new ones) but don’t have hard numbers or benchmarks to show.

Here’s another bug I found. The table below has two columns and two identical tabbed views sharing the same canvas filter on the Name column. Notice what happens when I toggle between tabs after typing a search term:
What’s happening: When switching tabs, Coda always selects the first row of the table — even if that row is filtered out in the current view. This causes the row to appear with the faded look and yellow funnel indicator.
Suggested fix: Either have each tab independently remember its selected cell, or, simpler and cleaner, just clear the selection entirely when switching tabs.

in my experience, tabbed views are a great UX addition, but for three unexpected behaviors:
- the “filter ghost” issue already spotted by @Nad ,
- the hiding of further views in the kebab button, while there’s still space for them (see screenshots): in my case, a single view is hidden, when it could perfectly fit on the right hand side as a further pill-shaped label.
- a related issue is that the kebab menu lists all the views, even the ones already displayed (see screenshots). It could show only the ones which are not shown as pill-shaped label.
Here’s also a suggestion for next iteration: it’d be really great to be able to set the label of the views programmatically, or at least to have a badge similar to buttons, to show e.g. a count of the items that needs attention for each view.

Hi again,
One more request: when the same page is open in two side-by-side browser tabs, toggling a tabbed view in one window causes it to toggle in the other as well. We don’t get this syncing behavior when expanding/collapsing headers or navigating to different pages. Tabbed views should be no different.

Unless I am missing something…
I can duplicate a tabbed view with a right click once I have another tab already created. How do I duplicate the base view if there are no other tabs created so far?

Ah yes I noticed this as well, I just create a new tab, then copy the original and delete the one I will not be using!

This already caused a stress today. One from finance dep. didn’t realise that the filtered detail display is for another item and was panicking that there are missing rows in the financial report. Took me a while to calm him down. Then we clarified that he needs to click outside of the table for the canvas filter to take effect and jump to the correct row.

I just started to test tabs. I am unable to find an option for existing tables with connected views to show the tabs. Is it possible somehow to reveal the tabs for existing tables which already have the different connected views?

Are you under a Free Plan?
I noticed that in my paid Team Plan Workspace, I can see the + to add Tabs, but not in the Docs under another Free Plan Workspace.

Hi, Diego! Tabs are not related to a paid plan, when you switch to a workspace without access to this beta feature the tabs won’t work. Only when this feature releases officially all workspaces will have access to the tab feature.
