New in Docs: 6 table updates that make building easier

Hi everyone! Happy Tuesday.

We have a lot of great features shipping this summer, and another set of table usability improvements: small-but-mighty updates that make tables easier to navigate, customize, and read.

You’ll see six new improvements designed to smooth out common table-building moments:

What’s new

1. More ways to organize your tabs

You now have more ways to reorganize your tabbed views. Not only can you drag to reorder your tabs or combine views, but you can also now separate tabs into standalone views or move tabs between standalone views of the same data.

2. Quick access to conditional formatting

Conditional formatting is now easier to find in the main table options menu, so you can style and organize your data without hunting through extra menus.

3. Inclusive date and number filters

Date filters now include “on or before,” “on or after,” and number filters now include “less than or equal to,” and “greater than or equal to.” This gives you more precise control when filtering by deadlines, launch dates, due dates, and more.

4. Summary rows that stand out

Summary rows now stand out from the rest of your table with clearer visual styling, helping you find totals, counts, and rollups at a glance.

5. Clearer control over the new row button

You now have a single control for the “new row” button, accessible from the table options menu. Choose Top, Bottom, Both, or None.

6. Inline editing for canvas columns

Canvas columns can be previewed and edited directly from the table, something we’ve heard was easy to miss. So, we’ve given the setting a clearer name and switched it on automatically in the moments you’re most likely to want it.

Why it matters

Individually, these updates are small. Together, they make tables feel more polished, more predictable, and easier to customize, especially for docs with lots of views, filters, groups, and rich table content.

These improvements also reflect a broader investment in the product after the SuperDocs launch: we’re listening to long-standing customer requests and shipping practical updates that make everyday building better.

Go try these out! We’d love to hear what you think.

Great features. Do you think the mobile experience will also get some attention, like a proper calendar view in Android or ios?

These are neat improvements. I really like the change to the filters, having the is empty and is not empty be their own options is going to save a lot of explaining.

This isn’t a big deal, but there is now a weird discrepancy between the formula name and the filter name. Isblank/isnotblank is still the formula but now we’ll be referring to it as empty/not empty to editors.

Good step forward! Thanks!

Great question!

Mobile is definitely an area we’re paying attention to, including calendar-style workflows on Android and iOS. I don’t have a specific roadmap or timeline to share right this moment, but will make sure and follow up if there is an update on the way.

Totally fair point, Sammy. I’m glad the filter change feels helpful, and I agree the naming difference between Empty/Not empty in filters and IsBlank()/IsNotBlank() in formulas could be a little confusing when explaining it to editors.

I’ll share that feedback with the team so they can consider whether there’s a way to make the terminology feel more consistent across the experience.

Also got confused by this naming of Empty/Not empty in filters and IsBlank()/IsNotBlank()

I have 3 feature suggestions to improve table user experience.

Are these already in the roadmap?
