Yesterday we hosted one of our most exciting roundtables yet, and if you missed it, here’s what went down:
@Jeremy_Olson and @Justin_Hales1 joined us to walk through something the team has been deep in for a while now. Given that this was a sneak peek into something that’s still in alpha, we’re not ready to go fully public with all the details yet. But the short version of AI Views is: it’s a new way to visualize and interact with your data that goes well beyond what’s currently possible with built-in views.
The chat was popping off the entire time, and here are a few highlights:
“This is insane.”
“F THIS IS IMPRESSIVE!”
“Our clients are going to love this.”
So yeah, that’s the kind of energy Jeremy and Justin gave us for a boost of adrenaline on a Tuesday afternoon.
What We Saw
The demos covered a range of use cases: event planning, presentation building, team prioritization exercises, org planning, and feedback triage, among others. The throughline across all of them was that your data stays at the center; the experience on top just gets a whole lot more powerful and flexible.
Jeremy also gave a glimpse into what the team is thinking about beyond the first release, and Justin showed a few examples that had people in the chat genuinely losing their minds (in the best way).
One member of our community, @David_Payne2 , took the team up on a challenge to build something live during the Q&A window. He had a working prototype on his screen in under 20 minutes. That pretty much captured the spirit of the whole session.
Q&A Highlights
@Kevin_Hall : How will this be priced? Pricing isn’t finalized yet. The expectation is that existing Coda subscribers will get access to this as part of their plan, with some form of usage metering for heavier AI activity. More details will be shared when the model is locked in.
@Kevin_Hall : Once something is built, does using it keep consuming AI credits? It depends on what you’ve built. Some interactions are just code running in the browser and don’t touch the AI at all. Others do, and those will count toward usage. The team is still working out exactly how that gets communicated and metered.
@Greg_Villeneuve**: Is there version control? What happens if an iteration goes sideways?** Yes, version history is built in. You can roll back to any previous state. More robust controls around what gets shown to collaborators versus what you’re still iterating on are also in the works.
@matu_gong: Will it be possible to build these without using AI at all? The current experience is AI-driven, and that’s intentional for now. The team isn’t closing the door on more manual control over time, and finer-grained editing options are being explored.
@Kayla_Taras**: Does the AI always produce the same result from the same prompt?** Not exactly, since AI is inherently a bit variable. The team is working on ways to give you more consistency and brand control over the output so it feels reliable even if it’s not pixel-identical every time.
@Kayla_Taras**: Will there be a template gallery so people can start from something pre-built?** Yes, that’s on the roadmap. The ability to apply an existing build to a new set of data is also being explored.
@Kayla_Taras**: Can you share just this new experience with someone without giving them access to the whole doc?** Not yet, but the team is aware it’s a common ask and is thinking through how that works.
@Jim_Baxley : How does security work, especially for teams with strict data requirements? Security was a first-class consideration in how this was built. The experience runs in an isolated environment, external data connections go through existing Coda infrastructure, and arbitrary outside code cannot be imported. The team will have more to share on this as it gets closer to a broader release.
What’s Next
This feature is still in early access, and everyone on yesterday’s call is getting an invite to participate in that process directly. If you want to stay close to what’s coming, keep an eye on the events page: we have a product roadmap conversation on June 25 and an AMA with the product team in July.
More details on this feature will be shared as we get closer to a broader release. Questions we didn’t get to live will be answered here in this thread, so check back soon.
